In accordance with the New Jersey Supreme Court ruling in the Abbott v. Burke case, Trenton’s Public Schools now start at age three. Formerly referred to as the “Abbott” program, this initiative is now called the DOE Preschool Program. This work is subcontracted to local child care centers. A child must be a resident of the city of Trenton and have reached his or her third birthday on or before October 1 to start school in September. For a list of contracted preschools for the current school year, see Forms at right.
